Blue’s Yoga classes are Iyengar based, but she engages her students in multiple modalities, techniques and traditions. Her work with energy and truth serves each of her students as they move towards healing, growth and awakening. She received her Yoga training in Amsterdam at the Jenna Studio of Iyengar Yoga and continued to train and practice at the Piedmont Yoga studio. She continues to study new and ancient forms of yoga to enliven her personal practice and teaching.
Classes
Beginning Yoga -First time visitors to a Yoga class will get a good foundation of sitting, and standing postures while awakening their awareness to proper posture and prop usage. It is important for the beginner to work with their body in a gentle yet alined way. I invite all students to see yoga as a time to set intentions for their health and well being.
Basic Yoga – Just beyond Beginning Yoga Basic Yoga can accommodate a class full of mixed level students. I offer more challenging options to those who have had more Yoga experience while reminding students to be at their just right place for their bodies.
Yoga for Relaxation – Students are invited to go deeper, longer, slower supported poses in a meditative and restorative atmosphere.
Family Yoga -Frogs, Dogs and Pollywogs! Well we can become just about any animal we want in this class! Using the yoga animal poses as our base, children and their families go on a magical journey where trees, mountains turn in to butterflies and dancing rainbows!
Yoga Dance -Combines Yoga, traditional Katack dance and contempoary dance students are able to increase heart rate, flexibility and creativity.
Drama Sutra -Combines traditional Yoga Asanas for body Flexibility and Theater Improvisation for brain flexibility, Drama Sutra improves right brain left brain communication
The 7 Chakra Series
Earth and Root Yoga 1st Chakra -Feel grounded in yourself and the Earth. Till your soil and grow your roots deep down and around. We will begin with the very basis yoga principles of opening. Prepare to build or rebuild your yoga practice from the ground up. We will meditate on the root chakra located at the base of spine and work to unlock the energy of kundilini. This First Chakra represents our basic needs for survival, shelter, food, and our earliest necessities as prehistoric humans to provide for ourselves. Practicing yoga with this focus can help you deepen into the earth and encourage your roots to hold fast as you reach for the skies.
Focus: Back bend preparations and back bend hip openers and pelvic balancing, meditations on self-love and the importance of knowing you are your own Guru.
Unity and Flow Yoga 2nd Chakra -Sense the abundance of life when you are truly grounded in yourself. You are prepared to accept your own well being and join in pleasure with others. We will explore traditional partner yoga in a comfortable and respectful atmosphere. Participants are guided through gentle, blissful partner yoga practices: partner asanas, meditations, pranayama (breath practice). Partner Yoga is about the senses, passionate energy, relationships and staying in love. These elements are artfully integrated into the yogic path of liberation, compassion, and loving service. We encourage you to come with a chosen partner, though all are welcome. All levels of yogic practitioners are welcome, though this is not recommended for a first yoga experience. This teaching is perfect for friends and couples. Water flows, we follow our bliss, life begins to reveals itself to us.
Focus: Balanced partnering poses. Discussions on the basics of Tantric Yoga.
Power and Fire 3rd Chakra -Our ability to be confident and in-control of our lives comes from the power in our core. We will work with this power center to strengthen and awaken our sense of purpose. We will begin with Yoga postures and incorporate Pilates strength training. As we own our power we develop the confidence to wield it in the world for the purpose of humanities evolutionary growth. As our sense of self-worth, self-confidence, and self-esteem overflows we have much to share with others.
Focus: Power poses, Strengthening holds and flow with hips, abdomen, torso movement, twits and dance.
Love Yoga 4th Chakra -This session is a gently guided yoga/dance celebration designed to encourage nourishment and awakening of the heart muscle. Let yourself move and be moved. We will dance through all of the Chakras and their Elements, feeling the grounding of Earth, flow of Water, Passion of Fire and Ecstasy of Air. Experience the brilliance of being a fully alive beating heart engaged through mus-form expression, meditation, activated imagination, subconscious storytelling and modern dance. Love, joy, inner peace.
Focus: Creating warmth, chest openings, dancing.
Singing the Divine 5th Chakra -Singing yoga. Explore sacred music and mantra in vocal and full body yoga practices for liberating the vishuddha (throat) chakra. With the use of sound circles and song and yoga breath you will learn to open to the power of your voice and begin to be the mouth of the divine. The Throat chakra gives us the ability to communicate fully with self-expression, feelings, and the truth. Sing the truth of simple love.
Focus: Shoulder stand, plow, side stretches
Third Eye Yoga 6th Chakra -This class explores ways of companioning yoga, meditation, the written word and material arts. We will create new artistic works using the 3rd eyes intuition. Many exercises, mediums and techniques will be introduced to strengthen the third eye. We will experiment with different styles of art, movement and text to developing our ability to focus on and see the big picture. Our intuition, imagination, wisdom, ability to think and make decisions creates powerful work.
Open the 3rd eye and become an observer of the beauty of the perfection around us.
Focus: Eye exercises, Warm oil face massage, eyes closed free writing, drawing, sculpting and painting.
Spirituality Yoga Meditation the 7th Chakra -The highest Chakra represents our ability to be fully connected spiritually. It represents our inner and outer beauty, our connection to spirituality, and pure bliss. We reach this place through meditation. There are many ways to meditate. Different traditions and schools of thought all lead to the same One source. We will look across cultures at how humans through the ages have conversed with the divine energy of the universe. We will examine the mythological continuum and learn how to meditate so that all aspects of your life become an active meditation. We will practice meditation and mindfulness while sitting, walking, running, hiking, eating, cleaning, and working. We rise to the heavens with the crown of light.
Focus: Readings of Joseph Campbell, Pema Chouda, Buddha, Jesus, Rumi, and other great teachers. Different styles of meditation will be introduced and practiced.
Series can be taught as individual classes, as a 3day or week long workshop.
Family Yoga Dance -Yoga for little ones and their families is quite different from the grown-up version. Families learn stretches and breathing techniques together in a fun and creative environment. Techniques will focus on teaching families to better understanding of their bodies and how they work while enjoying the fun and bonding that comes with family activities. This class encourages parents to support each other in the challenges of parenthood and bask in the joy of pure new baby Love and Family Love. This class is a great class to take with any family member. It focuses on play and the importance of positive energy exchange. All classes begin with good energy gathering end by thanking the body from toes to head. Be a well-balanced individual to raise a healthy well-balanced family.
Yin Yoga -Yin is the practice of deep slow supported poses offered in an enviroment of meditative quite. Aroma Therapy, spiritual readings and light massage are offered during each restorative session
